Qld: Refinery sub-contractors to meet on continuing strike
BRISBANE, April 10 AAP - Maintenance workers at Brisbane's Caltex Oil Refinery willmeet this morning to decide whether to continue industrial action.
About 80 workers yesterday went on a 24-hour strike after negotiations over a new enterprisebargaining agreement broke down.
Australian Manufacturing Workers' Union (AMWU) Queensland secretary David Harrisonwarned any prolonged disruption could threaten the state's oil supplies.
AMWU members employed by sub-contractors Transfield Services, Bains Harding Industries,Seat Corrosion, Contact Resources and West Brothers Construction first went on strikeon March 6.
Mr Harrison said members returned to work in mid-March when it looked as though a breakthroughmight be achieved.
But he said after fruitless negotiations with the sub-contractors and couple of industrialrelations hearings it was decided to take further action.
Workers will meet at 8.30am (AEST) today at the refinery.
