Qld: Clean up to give rivers a new lease of life
The Queensland government has launched a project to clean up the Brisbane and Bremer rivers.
Speaking at the launch, Environment Minister ROD WELFORD said the clean-up by volunteers
will give the two rivers a new lease of life.
Between 20 and 40 members of the non-profit environmental group Maritime Care will
work at any one time on an 80km stretch of the rivers, removing floating debris and clearing
banks of rubbish.
Mr WELFORD says the project is designed to bring back to life over the next 20 years
the bays, rivers, creeks and estuaries of south-east Queensland.
