Lessons of Enron Have Application in Thailand.

Feb. 8--Could the Enron debacle, now being hailed as a textbook case of poor corporate governance, occur on a similar scale in Thailand?

It already has, if one traces back several years to corporate failures such as the Bangkok Bank of Commerce or Somprasong Land.

Chalee Chantanayingyong, assistant secretary-general of the Securities and Exchange Commission, said one factor was the difficulty investors and others outside of the accounting profession had in decoding financial statements.
